Home Goes Up In Flames On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a house on Detroit's west side "went up like a match box" after catching fire on Friday.

The home is located on 17th Street off Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, near I-96 and I-75 interchange.

A cause of the fire hasn't yet been determined.

One woman who has lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years said she couldn't believe her eyes. She thinks the fire could have been set deliberately, but not necessarily with bad intentions.

"They're slowly getting Detroit back, slowly getting it back. There's two over there that's going to be burned down pretty soon. Somebody trying to clean up Detroit for everybody that didn't want to stay in Detroit," she said.

It's wasn't immediately clear if the home was occupied or vacant at the time of the fire.
