Terry Foster Talks ‘100 Things Tigers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die’
DETROIT (WWJ) – You call yourself a Detroit Tigers fan, but how much do you really know about the team?
WWJ’s Greg Bowman caught up with 97.1 The Ticket’s Terry Foster, who just published a book called “100 Things Tigers Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die.”
Foster said the title of the $15 book explains it all. So, what’s the most important thing a Tigers fan should know?
“Well, you need to know that the all-time leading winning pitcher is Hooks Dauss, and most people would say that is incorrect but it’s not. You also need to know that the best places to go watch the games when you’re out downtown, and that’s one of the fun aspects I put in there,” Foster said.
Foster’s book talks about some of the best bars and restaurants to enjoy before and after the game. He also talks about the old Lindell AC on Michigan Avenue, a place where fans had a chance to actually hang out with Tiger players, coaches and managers.
What are some of the other things fans need to know?
“Some of the backgrounds, like Miggy Cabrera. Was he really the MVP last year? I say yes. Justin Verlander, should he have been the Cy Young winner and the MVP? I say yes, and I mention reasons why,” he said.
Foster said the way we watch baseball has changed dramatically since the Tigers last won the World Series in 1984.
“You have all the sports channels and the websites that really make it, you know, it’s not a daily thing, it’s like an hourly update on baseball and the Tigers and it’s really, really more exciting now, I think,” he said.
Foster will be signing copies of his book on Saturday at Mallie’s Sports Bar in Allen Park from noon until 2 p.m. Other signings are Thursday May 9 at Sherwood Brewery in Shelby Township at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday May 18 at the Tilted Kilt in Novi, from noon to 2pm.
