DETROIT (WWJ) – A 16-year-old Detroit boy is dead after he was shot in what appears to be a game of Russian roulette.
Detroit Police Inspector Dwayne Blackmon said it happened on Parker Street, near Van Dyke and Kercheval, Tuesday morning.
“You have a group of teenagers together and, for whatever reason, they decide to start playing with a weapon, you know — that’s the elements of disaster,” Blackmon told WWJ Newsradio 950.
“Apparently, from what we’re hearing — and we’re still in the initial investigation — is that … they were playing Russian roulette,” he said. “We don’t know that for certain, but what we’ll have to do is look at the evidence, along with some of the witness statements, and hopefully pull together exactly what occurred.
Blackmon said, late Tuesday afternoon, they were still gathering witness statements.
Russian roulette is an inherently ill-advised game of chance in which a player places a single round in a revolver, spins the cylinder, holds the muzzle against his or her head, and pulls the trigger.
The teen’s name has not been released.
