Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley says he is a big kid that loves to have fun in the sun and play.

That’s why he looks forward to playing in his second annual kick ball tournament this Saturday (11 am) at Belle Isle. The event is open to the public and Fairley is partnering with Playworks Detroit.

You will see a happy and go lucky Fairley. You won’t see that smiling face during Lion games this season. Fairley is now one of the leaders of the team and is one of the Lions best defensive players. He teams inside with Ndamukong Suh and if Fairley plays as expected it will be more difficult to double team Suh.
Fairley said he is healthy, excited and ready to go.

He is being recognized by the NFL insiders. Fairley was named one of the top 101 NFL players by Pro Football Weekly. Three Lions made the team. They were Calvin Johnson (13), Suh (60) and Fairley (68).

“I would say I have not put my share of work in the NFL just yet,” Fairley said from the 971 FM studios. “Coming into my third year this is where I am focusing on becoming an impact player.”
