It cannot be denied: Victor Martinez has given Fantasy owners precious little production this year. Yet for someone with abysmal Fantasy stats, the Tigers’ designated hitter is doing a lot of things right.

Martinez is still hitting for contact, walking at a reasonable (if not great) rate, exercising strong plate discipline and stinging the ball for frequent line drives and outfield flies. He is batting only .068 on flyballs, and it’s not just because Martinez has been limited to only one home run. As shown on his spray chart on TexasLeaguers.com, plenty of Martinez’s flies have traveled deep into the outfield.
