Announcement Naming Mayor's Run For Office "Imminent"

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has scheduled an announcement on his political future Tuesday, the deadline to file for a second 4-year term as Detroit's mayor.

Bing spokesman Bob Warfield tells WWJ in an e-mail that Bing would "make a major announcement about his political future" at noon Tuesday at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The filing deadline is at 4 p.m.

The 69-year-old professional basketball Hall-of-Famer and ex-steel supply company owner was elected in 2009. He inherited a budget deficit of more than $300 million.

In March, Detroit became the largest city in the country to fall under state oversight when Gov. Rick Snyder appointed bankruptcy attorney Kevyn Orr as emergency manager. Orr has final say on all city financial matters.
