One Car Accident Kills U-M Health System Doctor

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - A doctor from the University of Michigan Health System has died after an accident on I-94 near Ann Arbor.

Michigan State Police identify the doctor as 51-year old Steven Gradwohl.

Witnesses and police say Gradwohl's car went off the freeway near Zeeb Road around 9:30 Saturday morning, hit a bridge abutment and burst into flames.

Drivers stopped and pulled the doctor from his burning car, but Gradwohl died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation shows Gradwohl may have lost consciousness for unknown reasons.

A medical examination is pending.

Dr. Gradwohl practiced internal medicine at the U of M Health System.

BIOGRAPHY AT U.M. HEALTH SYSTEM

Dr. Gradwohl is a graduate of the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, CA.

It's noted that he enjoyed, running, racquetball and gourmet cooking.
