Finding The Right SPF For Your Fun In The Sun
DETROIT (WWJ) - Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner, and that probably means more time in the sun.
If you haven't picked up sunscreen yet, you'll find new labels designed to make the products more effective and easier to use.
But the Environmental Working Group says many sunscreens continue to carry SPF ratings that some experts consider misleading.
Metro Detroit Dermatologist Steve Grekin says don't pay extra for an SPF above 50.
"You don't get a big enough bang for the buck," said Dr. Grekin."Buy the 30 or the 50 and reapply it more often and you are actually going to be safer."
He says it's important to use enough sunscreen to fill a two-ounce shot glass, and re-apply it every two hours, or after sweating or swimming.
