Michigan Jobless Rate Falls 0.6 Points In April

LANSING (AP) – Michigan says that the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate is down 0.6 percentage points statewide and in most major labor markets.

The Department of Technology, Management & Budget released the April figures Thursday, showing the statewide unemployment rate at 8.2 percent. The rate was 8.8 percent in March and 8.5 percent in April 2012.

The populous Detroit-area job market accounts for about half the state’s workforce, and its unemployment rate fell a full percentage point to 8.9 percent from March to April.

The lowest rate in the April report was for Ann Arbor at 5.1 percent, unchanged from March. The highest was for the northeastern Lower Peninsula at 11.8 percent, down from 13.1 percent in March.
