Retired Troy Doctor Killed In Ortonville Crash

ORTONVILLE (WWJ) - An area doctor is dead following a crash near Ortonville.

The retired Troy doctor died following a two-car accident Friday morning in Northern Oakland County.

Dr. Nabil Awad El-Shamaa was headed northbound on Ortonville Road in Brandon Township when a van full of kids driven by a 31-year old Holly resident turned in front of him.

The 74 year-old doctor struck the van then collided head on with a pick up.

Dr. El-Shamaa was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The driver of the pickup remains hospitalized in stable condition. No one in the van was injured. That includes the 4 children all under the age of 6.

The accident remains under investigation, but police do not believe alcohol or cell phone use was a factor.
