Bicyclists Looking For More Respect On The Road
LANSING (WWJ) - Bicycle riders rally in Lansing to call for changes in state law that would offer more protections for cyclists, including tougher penalties against those who injure or kill bicyclists.
John Lindenmayer is with the League of Michigan Bicyclists.
"Moving for some policy initiatives that will help protect cyclists out there on the road - being a vulnerable roadway user - penalties for drivers who drive recklessly and injure or kill a bicyclist something similar to what you see for construction workers," said Lindenmayer.
State officials say that in 2011 alone, there were nearly two thousand motor vehicle crashes that involved cyclists.
