The Womencenter at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus presents "From Our Perspectives," its annual national women's art exhibition, the largest event of its kind in the country.

The juried exhibition runs from September 26 – October 25, 2013, at OCC's Orchard Ridge Campus' Smith Theatre Gallery. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday, 10 am – 4 pm.

Over 300 works of art are typically entered from women artists nationwide.  Last year the exhibition hosted 34 artists with 34 pieces in a variety of media including acrylic, oil, textile and clay, photography, ink, pencil, metal, watercolor, and various mixed media and found objects. Artists participating in the show were from Alabama, California, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York and Ohio.

Last year's juror, Margi Weir, earned her MFA in painting from UCLA; her MA in painting from New Mexico State University; her BFA in painting from San Francisco Art Institute. Awards for her work include the prize for Best Work on Paper in the first Southwest Biennial of the Albuquerque Museum in 2006, and Best of Show in New Directions in Fiber at CORE New Art Space, Denver, Colorado in 2004. Ms. Weir has many solo exhibitions including: Ivan Karp's OK Harris Gallery in New York, Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica, California, Still/Zinsel Gallery in New Orleans. Completed installation pieces include those at Athens Institute of Contemporary Art, and at the Lexington Art League (Kentucky). A retrospective of her work was held at the Las Cruces Museum of Art in 2009. Ms. Weir moved to Detroit in 2009 to join the Wayne State University Faculty as an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing.

"From Our Perspectives" is presented by the Womencenter, a facility that provides educational and supportive resources for students and area women.
