Thousands On Hand For Grand Prix Racing On Belle Isle

BELLE ISLE (WWJ) - There are thousands of fans enjoying a full day of racing on Belle Isle for the 2013 Detroit Grand Prix.

Drivers like Brad Adams of Capalti Racing are getting ready for the Perilli World Challenge:

"It's difficult, I don't have a lot of time on this track and the walls seem to come in on you," he laughed. "I did remarkably better this last session then I did first session but I'm pretty good off the pace right now, because I don't have a lot of experience here."

Adams who is from New Orleans has only been on Belle Isle once before but he told WWJ's Beth Fisher that the track is much better now.

Tony Carruthers came from Ohio and he's a big racing fan that attends several races a year ... but it's his first time to the Grand Prix.

"It's good. I like it. I like the track ... you can be around the drivers...everything...second to none...it's awesome," said Carruthers.

And, Carruthers said he isn't worried about a chance for severe weather today.

"It's part of racing. It's an outdoor event...so what happens, happens. You can't control it, so why try..right? Just enjoy yourself and have fun."

Last year the race had to be stopped for a couple of hours - when pieces of the track came up.
