With the NHL competition committee meeting in Toronto starting on Tuesday, most of the attention was being paid to the visor issue, whether or not we will move another step forward to them being mandated. There was also a little mind to icing and whether the NHL will continue to explore hybrid icing.
But another perhaps more meaningful item was on the agenda. That would be the size of goaltending equipment.
Whenever you hear about the continued trend of scoring decreasing in the NHL, there are always a few go-to solutions. One is to make the nets bigger. Others say you should make the rink bigger. The third option, which is on the table in Toronto, is to go smaller. As in make the goalie equipment smaller.
