DETROIT (WWJ) – A Blue Mass is being held at a historic Detroit church Sunday to honor police, fire and other safety personnel.

Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Michael Filiccia  organized the mass at Sweetest Heart of Mary Catholic Church says it’s time to pray for those who put their lives on the line everyday.

“They have a tough job, they really do,” said Filiccia. “So, that’s the least we can do.”

Prayers were offered for police and fire personnel killed in the line of duty — including reserve New Baltimore police office Patrick Wisniewski who was killed last week.

He was hit on his motorcycle by an alleged drunk driver.
