DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Father’s Day is right around the corner, which means barbecues, Hallmark cards and remembering those special moments with Dad — the times he tossed a ball, sat in the stands, handed over the keys for the first time.

And some have a little something to add: the times he went on the Internet and literally pretended you didn’t exist.

A new Father’s Day report from the website whatsyourprice.com found nearly one in three fathers deny having children when they create an online dating profile. The survey broke down results geographically to find Detroit fathers are among the worst, ranking No. 5 with 40 percent of fathers denying they had kids.

The worst dads allegedly live in Columbus, Ohio, where 46 percent denied their kids, followed, in order, by: Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Detroit, Little Rock, Tulsa, Wichita, and Albuquerque.

Where are the country’s most honest fathers? The survey found only 33 percent of dads lied about having kids in Memphis, Tenn.    And, according to the site, the worst dads live in Columbus, Ohio —where 46 percent denied their kids

The site calculated these numbers based on a simple equation of cross-referencing members’ log-in information, where men had to answer a question about whether they have a child, and comparing that to information they put on their actual dating profile. The results are based on 13,587 profiles.

Younger were the worst offenders, the study found. Fifty-two percent of  liars were under 30 years old.

So what’s making Dad a liar? Brandon Wade, founder of whatsyourprice.com, thinks he knows.

“Fathers are initially reluctant to talk about their kids in fear of losing potential partners,”  Wade said. “Dating a single parent requires more commitment, so fathers often lie on their profiles in order to attract more singles.”
