Buchholz On The Mend For Red Sox

DETROIT (AP) — Boston's Clay Buchholz was able to throw a bit Thursday, and the Red Sox hope the unbeaten right-hander will be able to come off the disabled list and start next week.

Buchholz is 9-0 with a 1.71 ERA. The Red Sox put him on the 15-day DL on Tuesday because of a strained neck, but the move was retroactive to June 9. Manager John Farrell says Buchholz could start Tuesday, but it remains to be seen if he can stay on that recovery schedule.

Farrell says Buchholz went out to about 100 feet while throwing Thursday, and the Red Sox hope he can throw from a mound soon. They're targeting Saturday for him to throw in the bullpen.
