2 Hurt In Head-On Mini Bike Crash

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Two men were seriously hurt when their mini bikes collided in Commerce Township.

Authorities say family members 36-year old William Ryan and 47-year old Mike Peters, both of Wolverine Lake, were riding in an industrial area near Maple and Ladd roads Sunday night when they crashed into each other — head-on.

Peters was able to call 911 for help from his cell phone.

Both men were rushed to the Botsford Trauma Center where, on Monday, Ryan remained in critical condition with a head injury and Peters was reported stable.

Oakland County Sheriff's officials said neither bike had a headlight and neither driver was wearing a helmet as they rode together in an "unlit industrial area."

It's suspected that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The Oakland County Sheriff's Department Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting in the investigation.
