EMU Prof Biking To Raise Money For Student Programs

YPSILANTI (WWJ) - An Eastern Michigan University instructor plans to ride a bicycle 450 miles across the state to raise money to help students at the Ypsilanti school.

Seventy-year-old John Fike wants to raise $4,000 dollars to help fund study abroad programs at Eastern --- and to help students start their fundraising careers through the EMU Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Program.

"We hope that people will donate to these funds - we need to be a community and surround our students and help them get the experience they need, they don't get the good jobs just because they've got the bachelor's degree or the master's degree they get it because they have the education but they also have the experience."

Fike's trek, which begins Saturday, will take about two weeks.
