Expanded Michigan Flyer Service Gets Approval

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Plans by a shuttle service that serves travelers at Detroit Metropolitan Airport to expand trips between East Lansing and Ann Arbor have been approved.

Michigan Flyer LLC is planning to add four daily trips to its current eight between East Lansing and Ann Arbor, where connections to Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Romulus are available. It got a $595,000 federal grant to support the expansion.

The Tri-County Regional Planning Commission voted 10-9 Wednesday to add the routes to a regional transportation plan.

The plans fueled debate about whether taxpayer money should be used to subsidize business. The Capital Region International Airport argued against the plans, saying Michigan Flyer was trying to take potential passengers. Michigan Flyer says it wanted to give travelers more choices.
