Child, 3 Others Hurt In Fireworks Mishap

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ/AP) - A home fireworks show in Macomb County took a scary turn.

Police said four people including a child were hurt in a Sterling Heights neighborhood when fireworks set off in a street went awry.

Police said a projectile tube tipped over Thursday and shot into a garage. Police said  the people in the area were injured, and the 8-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital but is expected to be OK.

Police also said the back window of a van shattered during the mishap. The person who set up the fireworks received a violation.

Meantime, authorities on the west side of the state said a 30-year-man also was injured Thursday in the Calhoun County community of Springfield as he was trying to light fireworks. WOOD-TV reports he was taken to a Kalamazoo hospital with burns and a broken wrist.
