Art and Architecture Research Gets Boost Via ProQuest's Comprehensive Archive

ANN ARBOR -- ProQuest is arming researchers studying the history of art and architecture with a comprehensive digital archive of the magazines considered the most accurate 20th-century chronicles of these disciplines.

Through ProQuest's renowned digitization, researchers will be able to explore Art and Architecture Archive's breadth of magazines -- encompassing the entire spectrum of the arts -- cover to cover as full-page, full-color images, with searchable text and article-level indexing.

"This archive provides libraries with a simple avenue for acquisition of a collection of essential primary sources in the arts," said Mary Sauer-Games, ProQuest Vice-President, Information Solutions. "Working in partnership with publishers and through ProQuest's expertise in digitization, we're able to put the entire history of these magazines in the hands of researchers."

Art and Architecture Archive's coverage extends from fine and applied arts to interior design, industrial design, and landscape gardening. Researchers will view the development of the arts through the pages of key magazines, including Country Life -- renowned for its vivid coverage of English Country Houses, architecture and gardening. and so detailed that is has been the go-to source for the set designers for Downton Abbey.

Other magazines included are Apollo, Architects' Journal, Architectural Review, ArtAsia Pacific, Art Monthly, C Magazine, Canadian Architect, Ceramics Technical, Eye, Graphis, Ornament, Print, Sculpture and Southwest Art

Digitized searchable backfiles are included from each magazine's first issue to 2005, including archival content previously unavailable in digital form. Art and Architecture Archive is cross-searchable with other ProQuest resources, enabling researchers to compare, contrast and build a 360 degree view of history.
