The Tour Of Detroit Is Off Says EM Kevyn Orr
DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit’s Emergency Manager has called off a controversial tour of Detroit that was aimed at drawing sympathy from the city’s biggest creditors.
Several creditors meeting with Orr said they wanted to concentrate on the city’s financial standing reports WWJ’s Pat Sweeting.
A planned tour of Detroit neighborhoods is off says Emergency Manager spokesperson Bill Nowling.
“It became apparent today that we weren’t really going to have enough to go on tour so we decided to cancel it – we don’t need to go through the expense – we are just going to take one or two people on a tour or they can go on a tour on their own, ” said Nowling. “But they expressed an interest to us that they wanted to stay with their heads in the books so we just had to pull the tour down.”
Knowling says that there also was concern about media coverage of the tour however the primary reason for canceling the tour was to focus attention on the city of Detroit’s finances.
In a statement, the Emergency Manager’s office said that Kevyn Orr is still encouraging “the city’s creditors to visit and tour the city on their own to see first-hand the issues ordinary Detroiters must deal with each day.” No new date for a future tour has been scheduled.
