Sterling Heights Gas Station Robbed At Gunpoint

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Police are looking for the man who robbed a Sterling Heights gas station at gunpoint.

The incident happened around 2:50 a.m. Thursday at the Zazz gas station near 15 Mile and Mound roads.

Police say a 23-year-old clerk was sweeping the floor when he was attacked and put in a chokehold by a black male who had been in the store a short time prior.

After a struggle, police say the clerk relented and was ushered to the cash register by the suspect, who was now displaying a handgun.

The clerk again struggled with the suspect, at which time he was struck repeatedly in the head with the gun, police said.

The suspect fled the store on foot to an adjacent residential area. The clerk was transported to an area hospital for injury to his head and was last reported in stable condition.

Police say surveillance video captured much of the incident, but they aren't sure of the suspect's identity.

Anyone who might recognize the suspect is asked to contact Sterling Heights police at 586-446-2800.
