8,000 Turn Up For 'American Idol' Auditions In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - "American Idol" hasn't been in Detroit for 10 years, but Sunday 8,000 people auditioned at Ford Field for a spot on the hit TV show.
Tiara Grimes, 26, of Detroit has made through to the next round of the competition.
What would it mean for the cashier and mother of two to become the next American Idol?
"I don't even know," she cried. "It would mean a lot for someone as shy as I am."
She said she "killed" the song she sang for Idol judges.
Marrialle Sellars, 17, of Indianapolis made it to Detroit for tryouts, and then to the next round.
"It means a whole lot," said Sellers. "Singing's my life and I couldn't think of my life without it."
Sellars is a high school senior, but if she makes it past the next two rounds and on to Hollywood, she said missing school would be worth the sacrifice. Her sister, unfortunately, didn't make it to the next round.
Laurelle Hall of Detroit tried to keep her nerves at bay:
"They actually sent home the other three people in my line and they kept me; I'm so happy," said Hall. "I'm trying to just contain myself for now. It really hasn't hit me yet."
There will be two more rounds of auditions in Detroit in the fall before anyone is chosen to move on to Hollywood.
