DETROIT (WWJ) – Milliken State Park in Detroit will be the setting for a special series of yoga classes over the next month.

A water bottle and a yoga mat are all you need to take part in a unique lunchtime experience in the city beginning this Tuesday at noon.

Karma Yoga Studio in Bloomfield Hills is hosting classes, open to the public, along the Detroit River.

Owner Katherine Austin hopes to bring the benefits of yoga to people who’ve never even considered it before.

“We do yoga for all levels, and we’ll do a meditation that’s easy,” Austin said. “It will help people get uplifted and inspired to go back to finish the rest of the day. Whether they’re living in Detroit or working in Detroit — it’s for everybody.”

“It really will show within 45 minutes how you can shift your consciousness,” she said.

A $10 donation is suggest, but Austin said participants are invited to pay whatever they can afford — and everyone is welcome, regardless of their ability to pay.

Proceeds from donations will benefit the non-profit Urban Farming.

Yoga in the Park begins this Tuesday and runs through August 13.
