MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) - They got away with bags packed with cigarettes.

Madison Heights police are looking for help from the public to identify four men who robbed a gas station store early last Sunday.

The heist took place just before 4:30 a.m. on July 21 at the Speedway at 32845 Dequindre Road in Madison Heights.  Police said they were responding to a call from an alarm company about a robbery in progress when they found a front window shattered.

Security footage showed four suspects — all males, all wearing dark clothing and with their faces covered — clearing shelves stocked with cartons of cigarettes.

The suspects, three of them wearing gloves, loaded the cartons into black garbage bags and fled the scene.

Police said officers called to the same Speedway three days earlier found the businesses' front window has been smashed in with a cider block, but the thieves hadn't been able to get in.

In both instances a light-colored minivan — possibly a older-model Chrysler Town And County — was seen, and police are looking for that vehicle.

Two of the suspects were wearing black masks, black hoodies, black gloves and black pants. A third suspect, a black male, was wearing a light-colored t-shirt over his face, black t-shirt and black shorts.  The fourth suspect was wearing  a black mask, dark gray hoodie, black gloves, and light-colored jeans.

Anyone with information about these suspects, the robbery or the attempted break-in are asked to call Madison Heights Police Detective Bureau at 248-585-5626.
