U-M President Says Detroit Will Survive Much Like GM, Chrysler

DETROIT (WWJ) - As daunting as the challenges of bankruptcy may be, University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman is adding her voice to those that believe a better future lies ahead for the City of Detroit.

"Everybody is focused on the decay, everybody's focused on the terrible financial situation, I get all that," said Coleman. "I understand that it's going to be a huge challenge but you know we didn't ever think that Chrysler and GM were going to survive bankruptcy, but they did and Detroit will survive too."

Coleman was in downtown Detroit Tuesday evening, as part of a recognition event for University of Michigan interns who have chosen to live and work in the city this summer.
