Fire Engulfs Tractor-Trailer After Hitting Light Pole In Taylor

TAYLOR (WWJ) – A fiery accident along eastbound I-94 freeway brings traffic to a halt Friday evening.

WWJ listerner, Richard Harrison of Hazel Park says a tractor trailer went over the embankment on I-94 eastbound near Telegraph and hit a light pole then exploded. He says he and several others stopped and tried to rescue the driver . . .but couldn’t reach him.
“Somebody yelled ‘there he is hanging out’ … and I saw an arm and it looked like he fell over … then he disappeared … and the fire got worse,” said Harrison. “We were trying to … but we didn’t have a big enough fire extinguisher to help and the fire just engulfed the whole tracker-trailer.”

Harrison says the tractor was hauling apples and he’s not sure if there was a passenger inside.

Officials have not yet confirmed any injury or fatality.
