Funds Being Raised To Bury Homeless, Iconic Detroiters

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police continue to investigate a hit and run that left two Detroiters dead.

Those Detroiters are believed to be Detroit Tiger game icons -- Eat 'em Up Tigers man James Van Horn and Dreadlock Mike. Both were homeless.

Meantime, we're learning more about the life of Horn -- who was featured in a documentary about the Brewster Projects, titled "Brewster Douglass, You're My Brother."

"My name is James Van Horn, I was raised and born in this area, just like when the big businesses move in - they tried to get most of the poor people, which happened to be black, to move away, to get out of the area, and sometimes now, they will stop you now and want to know what you are doing in the area. Most time, we've been in the area all of our life."

A memorial fund has been set up for the two men- to raise money for their funeral costs.
