Scherzer Is Baseball’s First 15-Game Winner

DETROIT (AP) – Max Scherzer is baseball’s first 15-game winner after pitching the Detroit Tigers to an easy 10-0 win over fast-fading Philadelphia in interleague baseball action. Scherzer held the Phils to just one hit over six innings and improved to 15-1.

Miguel Cabrera homered in his first at-bat after returning from a hip injury to get the Tigers rolling. Detroit scored five runs in the first and three in the second off Raul Valdes, who started because Cliff Lee was out with a stiff neck. Cabrera’s solo homer in the first was his 32nd of the year, and he later added two more RBIs to increase his season total to 99.

The Phils have lost seven in a row to fall 10 games back of NL East-leading Atlanta.
