Lions Fans Get Up Early To Get Sneak Peek At Team

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WWJ) - The Detroit Lions are treating fans to an open practice during their first week of training camp, where all football fans can get a sneak peek at this year's team.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reported from Allen Park that before daybreak about a half-dozen kids were first in line — three hours —  early waiting for the gates to open. Bob Riddle of Southgate was there with the kids, riding herd.

"They wanted to go on the field with the players, so we wanted to make sure that they had the opportunity to," Riddle said. "They usually pick somewhere from 12 to 30 kids; the first 30 kids get to go on the field with the players, so they know it. We come every year and they love it."

Riddle said at 4:30 in the morning, the kids were wide awake and ready to go.

What do they expect from the team this year? Every one of them also expects the Lions to return to the playoffs this season.

Fans can follow Lions action all season long on WWJ's sister station, 97.1 The Ticket.
