INKSTER (WWJ) – Police in Inkster are investigating the shooting death of a man in a wheelchair.

Police say the shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. Monday at the Heatherwood Apartments Complex on Michigan Avenue, just west of Beech Daly Road.

Officers arrived on the scene to find 28-year-old Anthony Wilson suffering from several gunshot wounds. Wilson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, Wilson was sitting outside with a group of people when a man came up behind them and opened fire.

Wilson’s friends told police that he had been in a wheelchair for about a month, after suffering injuries in a motorcycle accident.

Police say Wilson’s death is the 13th homicide in the city already this year, compared to a total of 12 for all of last year.

No arrests have been made, nor suspects named.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Inkster Police at 313-563-9850 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
