Van Crashes Through Dollar Store, Bursts Into Flames

DETROIT (WWJ) - A dollar store on Detroit's west side went up in flames after a minivan crashed through the front window.

The accident happened during the early morning hours Tuesday at the Dollar Value store on Plymouth Road, just west of Greenfield Road.

Police say the minivan went all the way through the exterior wall before it burst into flames, gutting the inside of the store. Police say somehow, the driver of the minivan was able to escape the flames and flee the scene.

Owners of the Dollar Value store declined comment, and it is unclear when they will reopen for business. Hours after the accident, the minivan remained inside the business as a property reclamation service began boarding up the broken windows and doors.

Anyone who may have information on the incident or the driver is asked to contact Detroit police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
