Shelby Township Man Killed In Crash

PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Police say a 30-year-old Shelby Township man was killed in a dramatic traffic crash Friday evening.

The accident happened around 7:45 p.m. in the area of Washtenaw Avenue and Carpenter Road in Pittsfield Township, just east of US-23.

The man, whose name was not released, was traveling eastbound on Washtenaw Ave. when he apparently lost control of his vehicle.

According to police, the vehicle drifted southeast across the northbound US-23 exit ramp to Washtenaw Ave. and over an embankment. The vehicle eventually came to rest in the parking lot of a restaurant after striking several parked vehicles that were unoccupied, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medical personnel. No other injuries were reported.

Police say they are still trying to figure out why the man lost control of his vehicle. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Pittsfield police at 734-822-4911.
