Who Wouldn't You Mess With?

DETROIT (97.1 THE TICKET) - It's been 20 years since the Nolan Ryan-Robin Ventura brawl. Ryan did a number on Ventura, looking like he knew how to fight.

Hit on the first pitch by Ryan, Ventura paused, made a few steps toward first base and then thought otherwise and charged the mound toward a waiting Ryan.

Ryan looks well suited to fight - getting Ventura into a headlock almost immediately and landing quite a few punches before both team benches join the melay.

White Sox manager, Gene Lamont, decides there is more emphasis needed and restarts the fighting after Part One of the brawl simmers.

The White Sox lost that game 5-2 against the Rangers. But Chicago did go on to win the West Division in 1993 - but lost the American League Championship series to Toronto, who went on to win the World Series.

Twenty years later, at Comerica Park, Ventura now 46, is the White Sox manager playing against Gene Lamont who is the Tigers bench coach, once again at the ballpark.

The anniversary of the Ryan-Ventura brawl begs the question: Who wouldn't you mess with?
