CMU Soccer Player Killed In Crash

MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) - Central Michigan University says a 19-year-old sophomore on the women's soccer team has died following a car crash that sent two other players to the hospital.

The Mount Pleasant school's athletic department announced Monday that Josie Seebeck died Sunday night after the Friday crash in the Charlotte area, near Lansing. Her biography on the department's website lists her as a midfielder whose hometown was Montgomery, Ala.

The department says one soccer player is hospitalized and the other was released after spending the night at the hospital for observation.

Athletics director Dave Heeke said in a statement it's "a tough, tragic time for our soccer student-athletes and the entire CMU Chippewa family."

Grief counselors are on hand to support the team, fellow students, faculty and staff. The crash is under investigation.
