METRO DETROIT  (WWJ/AP) - Results are coming in from around the metro Detroit area shortly after polls closed Tuesday evening.

DETROIT/WAYNE

Early returns in Detroit's mayoral primary show that with write-ins counted for 44 precincts, 2,033 of the ballots have "Mike Duggan" on them - far more than any other name written on ballots.

Elections Director Daniel Baxter says counting the write-ins is a much slower process than regular ballot tabulations. But even then, write-ins had more than 50 percent of the total vote with 167 of 614 precincts reporting.

Former medical center chief Mike Duggan waged a strong write-in campaign after his name was kicked off the ballot over a residency issue.

Some other write-in spellings include "Duggen," "Duggon," "Droggan," "Doggan," and "Diggeu."

County Sheriff Benny Napoleon was second to the write-ins in percentage of votes.

The top two vote-getters move on to the November general election.

A big win for an Allen Park millage. A vote to keep funding for police and fire in the city at its current level passes by a 40-point margin.

The vote was for three and one-quarter mills or an average of 74 cents per resident per day.

In Dearborn's mayoral race and with 92% of the vote in, Incumbent mayor John B. O'reilly, Jr has 77% of the vote and Edward Binkley is second with 9%.
