200 Cats Up For Adoption In 48-Hour Event

BLOOMFIELD HILLS (WWJ) - It's called The Cat's Pajamas: A 48-hour, 200 cat adoption marathon.

Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills will stay open for 48 hours straight for the event, from 4 p.m., Friday, August 9 to 4 p.m., Sunday, August 11.

Store owner Addie Shuttuck talked about why they're going to such lengths.

"The shelter is just overrun with cats; and I certainly don't wanna see any cats being put down because of overcrowding," she told  WWJ's Chrystal Knight. "So we're gonna to try and find as many homes as we can."

Families can choose from 200 cats and kittens of all shapes and sizes available for adoption from Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center in Auburn Hills.

"We will have a huge selection of just about every type of cat imaginable," Shattuck said.

Adoption counselors will be on hand all 48 hours with the goal of finding homes for as many pets as possible. An adoption fee of $60 includes spay/neuter, health checks and vaccinations. All adopters get a free feline wellness exam courtesy of Ross Hospital for Animals in Bloomfield Hills.

In addition, shoppers who wear their pajamas to the store from midnight to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday will get free donuts and 20 percent off their purchase of non-sale items.

Pet Supplies Plus in Bloomfield Hills located at 2057 Telegraph, north of Square Lake Rd.
