DETROIT (WWJ) – Ferndale’s One-Eyed-Betty’s takes top honors in the Detroit Burger Brawl.

The competition held at Fairway Packing at Eastern Market Saturday brought out more than two-thousand hamburger lovers.

One-Eyed-Betty’s Chef Emmele Herrold says her winning burger — was part burger and part donut:

“Donuts are not that sweet on their own, so it was savory not a sweet element,” Herrold said.

For the bun, she stuffed doughnut dough with bleu cheese, cream cheese, sautéed onions, mushrooms and jalapenos.

“Everyone likes fried dough,” said Herrold.

Meantime — Herrold says the combination burger-donut won’t be a regular in her restaurant anytime soon but she will have it on as a special in the weeks to come!
