Most of the time, defense is not pretty. Most of the time, defense is not noticed. With Jose Iglesias, the tables are turned.

The 23-year-old infielder has made his name on defense, and for good reason. With all the incredible plays Iglesias has made, it is easy to forget how outstanding he is. At shortstop for the Detroit Tigers Monday night, he reminded everyone with the above play, which ended up on ESPN’s SportsCenter as number one on the evening’s list of Top 10 Plays.

In 10 games so far with the Tigers after being traded from the Boston Red Sox, Iglesias has 10 hits. His average is .286, and he has one home run and three RBIs with his new club.

The Tigers traded for Iglesias because of the looming 50-game suspension of former Detroit shortstop Jhonny Peralta.
