Warren To Simulate Active Shooter Situation At Davenport University

WARREN (WWJ) - The city of Warren will hold a full-scale emergency exercise Tuesday at the Davenport University campus.

The emergency drill, which is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., will feature active sharp shooters, SWAT teams, first-responders, a helicopter and about 100 victims.

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts said the exercise will begin with six active shooters forcing their way into two buildings of Davenport, "shooting and killing" the victims. The SWAT teams will then arrive around 11:40 a.m. and clear the facilities.

SWAT medics and other first responders will treat and triage the wounded who will then be transported to the hospitals. A helicopter will also land and transport the most critical patients.

Fouts said this is the “closest thing to a real-life emergency situation, adding that the experience “will display how well-trained law enforcement and medical professionals function as a team to protect the public.”
