Police: Speed, Alcohol Likely Factors In Crash That Killed 3 In Detroit

DETROIT (CBSDETROIT) - Three people are dead after a tragic crash on M-10 the Lodge at the Davison Freeway.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday and closed that part of the road for more than 5 hours.

UPDATE 3 P.M.: Michigan State Police are saying that two-cars were involved in the crash on the Lodge expressway which killed three Grand Rapids-area men and injured two other people.

Speed, alcohol and failure to use safety belts "appear to be possible factors in the crash."

Witnesses saw a 2003 Monte Carlo traveling north at high speed and then hit a 2006 Corolla.

Authorities report that the Monte Carlo struck theToyota Corolla which was also northbound on M-10.

The Toyota over turned as a result of the collision.  The Toyota had four occupants in the vehicle. Three of the four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting autopsies.
