Mother Of Alleged 12-Year-Old Bank Robber Arrested, Delaying Boy's Court Date

DETROIT (WWJ) There are even more problems for the family of a 12-year-old who was arrested for bank robbery.

Now, his mom is in the pokey, too.

Lamar Harris, 12, was to appear in court Monday morning on charges of breaking and entering, malicious destruction of property and a curfew violation related to a July bank robbery at a Bank of America branch in Southfield.

His pockets stuffed with Funyons and other snacks, police said the boy rode his bike into the front glass to get inside and collect rolled coins.

But on the way to the courthouse where the boy was to face the music, the child's mother was arrested by Oak Park police.

Sources tell WWJ an arrest warrant was issued for the child's mother, Afi Bashir, for failing to allow the child's dad, also named LaMar Harris, to see their son, per a court order.

There was no immediate word on when the mother will be released from jail ... but the judge adjourned the child's court hearing to Thursday afternoon.
