Small Tornado Touches Down In Livingston County

GENOA TWP. (AP) - The National Weather Service says it's confirmed the touchdown of a small tornado in southeastern Michigan.

The weather service says the twister landed in Livingston County about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday and traveled about 2.8 miles on the ground. It says the tornado uprooted numerous trees and caused damage to the siding of some houses.

The weather service says the funnel cloud touched down in Genoa Township and followed a southeastern path into Hamburg Township. The area is about 40 miles west of Detroit.

The weather service rates the tornado as an F0, its lowest classification. That means its speed was less than 73 miles per hour.

The tornado came during a wave of thunderstorms that dropped as much as 4.6 inches in parts of Michigan's Lower Peninsula.
