DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Former Detroit mayoral candidate Tom Barrow will get a recount of votes for the city’s top elected office from Aug. 6 primary.

Wayne County canvassers voted Thursday to recount the ballots after receiving a petition from Barrow, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Barrow finished out of the top two in the primary, but has claimed there was fraud in the election process.

This will be the fourth time the ballots from Detroit’s mayoral race will be counted.

The recount follows certification Tuesday of the election by state canvassers who had to tabulate more than 24,000 write-in ballots for mayor. County officials deferred the certification to the state because city elections workers used numeric counts instead of hash marks to tabulate some of the write-ins.

Write-in candidate Mike Duggan received the most votes for mayor, followed by Benny Napoleon. They are to face off in the November general election.
