Three Men Attack Two Elderly Detroit Women In Their Beds

DETROIT (WWJ) Two elderly Detroit women were left terrorized and injured after thieves break into their home on Pingree Street on Detroit's west side early Monday, apparently looking for cash and jewelry.

Three men got into the house through a side window to attack the 83 and 89-year-old women who live in the upper and lower flats. The 89-year-old was left with bruised and sore legs, a swollen eye and lacerations after she was tied up and pummeled in her bed.

She woke up to them beating her, a family friend said.

"When I looked up there were two in the room and they were asking for the money, where is the jewelry," the 83-year-old victim named Bernice said.

She added: "They said 'don't scream, don't say anything' and they showed me a little rusty, a small gun, you don't know whether it works or not, I didn't because this has never happened to me before, so this is a whole new kind of thing," the victim said.

The men eventually left, but not before they snatched food from the refrigerator.
