Two Elderly Women Terrorized And Robbed In Their Own Home

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two elderly women are terrorized and robbed in their own home. WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas reports from the scene that, according to a relative of one of the women, the victims' home was ransacked.

The house is located on Detroit's east side, on Pingree Street off Linwood. One of the victims, 83-year-old Bernice, who didn't want to give her full name, was able to talk about the ordeal.

"They hit her and then they woke me up," Bernice said. "They came to the bedroom, and they told me to be quiet. And they had a gun ... you know it was small. I think it was small, but at that time, they kept asking me where is the money and where is the jewelry."

Bernice says, contrary to some reports, she was not tied up. "The response was beautiful. She called em (police), and they came right away."

The intruders did, however, rough up an 89-year-old woman, leaving her eye swollen, according to the woman's great, great niece.

The two women are expected to be okay. Detroit Police are investigating.
