Community Forum To Focus On Solutions For Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Enough talk about all the problems in Detroit — now it's time to discuss solutions. That's the thinking behind a forum called, "Detroit Solution Driven," set for Thursday evening.

Organizer and business owner Shawn Lee says the idea is to gather like-minded people come up with ideas on how to move Detroit forward.

"And the purpose is to bring these people together so we can start a positive narrative, a positive conversation, and also bring the pockets of progress together so that we can gain a great momentum as far as the morale of Detroit is concerned," said Lee.

Lee calls forum panelists "power house doers." They include Skillman Foundation CEO, Tonya Allen; and Hajj Flemmings of Brand Camp University. Also on the panel is Detroit Poet, Jessica Care Moore.

The forum will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in the First Container, "which is a shipping container that's been retrofitted and outfitted to look like a beautiful room in your home," Lee explained.

"It has wood; it has chandelier;, it has an outdoor deck; and so, the panelists will be on the deck," he said. "And I think this container is symbolic of what we can actually do with Detroit: We can take something that had one use and we can re-purpose it."

The Collision Works' First Container is located in Eastern Market at 2930 Russell in Detroit. Parking is available behind the container.

The event is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.
