Death Of Baby Left In Car Ruled A Homocide

PONTIAC (WWJ) - The death of a 16-month-old Pontiac boy has been ruled a homicide by the Oakland County Medical Examiner — and his father will face charges.

The baby was found dead, early Thursday evening, after he'd been left in a car — apparently for several hours — on Pontiac's north side.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home on the 1600 block of Savanna after a report of a mother screaming. An ambulance was dispatched and the child was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The mother told the authorities that she had left the baby in the care of his father while she went to work and had arrived home to find her child dead.

The 46-year-old father was taken to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Pontiac substation where he was questioned, and an autopsy later determined hypothermia was the cause of death.

A warrant has been obtained on a charge of "child abuse - leaving a child in a vehicle resulting in death," and the father is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in 50th District Court in Pontiac.

He is currently being held in the Oakland County Jail.
